Behold the Steam Powered Personal Progressive Firearm and Anti Personnel Hand Weapon
This is the steam pistol or steam ‘phaser’ (it has a stun setting) as described in the script. It took some thinking as it was such a distinctive and powerful part of the screenplay. It needed to appear modern (for the era) and powerful while being extremely portable. I wanted it to look high tech (again, for the era) but be recognizable as a prototype. The bulky hoses were chosen to show that the Professor had managed to make dangerous and extreme forces unusually portable.
